Connaught Water and a Treat at the Retreat

Felt the need to get some fresh air yesterday but didn't want to go too far afield.  Connaught Water in Epping Forest fitted the bill.

We added to the walk by heading off along Queen Victoria's path.  However, we got slightly lost and ended up doing a long loop back to the Royal Hunting Lodge.  I just wish they would put some more meaningful signs at each junction.  There are many wooden posts with arrows painted on them but what about adding some wording indicating the place of interest which can be reached along the path.

I'm not too keen on the churning-up of the paths by the horse riders either!

Anyway, the day was definitely improved by having our lunch at the recently refurbished and under new ownership, 'Butler's Retreat'.

Wet and Windy May

I've been indoors for most of the day sheltering from the strong and unseasonal winds.  Took this photo a couple of days ago in my back garden.

The Darling Buds of May

Rough winds do shake the Darling Buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date.
(Shakespeare Sonnet 18)

Probably refers to a May Tree and not a rose.  However, we certainly have had the rough winds (and rain) this weekend.

Blow Away Dandelion

Dandelion don't tell no lies
Dandelion will make you wise
Tell me if she laughs or cries
Blow away Dandelion

Not sure what these Rolling Stones lyrics mean.

Also, I can't decide whether the Dandelion is a weed

to be removed from my lawn.  I suppose the mower

will get it sooner or later.

The Wanstead Bluebells

Probably the best display of bluebells in the area can be found in Chalet Wood, near the Temple in Wanstead Park.  Plan a trip within the next couple of weeks otherwise you maybe too late.
