Raining all day.  Do people still say that it is 'raining cats and dogs' ?

Somerset House

Took a trip to Somerset House in the Aldwych to visit two exhibitions: Stanley Spencer's 'Heaven in a Hell of War' and Andy Gott's 'Behind the Mask'.  The real star of the show is Somerset House itself - with its spectacular courtyard and neo-classical architecture.

Stormy weather

December storms brought several trees down in Valentines Park.  I found these ducks to be making good use of this fallen tree on this sunny January morning.

Town planning plea

I walked passed the new Jolliffe shop on High Street, Wanstead.  It's a shame that the original Jolliffe office is under threat of demolition;  it is a quirky building which adds to the distinctive nature of Wanstead.  Let's hope that whatever replaces it is in keeping with the surrounding buildings.

Visit to Kenwood House

Kenwood House has now re-opened.  Set on the edge of Hampstead Heath, Kenwood is one of London's hidden gems.  As a bonus, the cafe next door serves fabulous cakes !

Grade I listed

The first Friday in 2014 starts off bright and sunny but the forecast is for more rainy and stormy weather to come.

The photo shows the clear blue sky over the church of St Mary's in Overton Drive, Wanstead.  It is one of the finest examples of a late 18th century church to be found in Greater London.  It is particularly rare because of its virtually unaltered state.  It is the only Grade I listed building in Redbridge.

Lest We Forget

The war memorial in Wanstead High Street always provides me with a poignant reminder of how much we owe to those who have fought to ensure our futures.
